When I left France, in June, I was very worried about the trip and this new adventure...but everything was OK I arrived safely even though very tired at Henry Kaufman Campground, Pearl River, in the State of NY.
Everybody was lovely with me and I immediately felt comfortable. We were 26 foreign persons (Australian, English, Polish, Irish, Danish...) I was the only one from France. I was astonished at seeing everybody spoke fluently English, it was a little difficult for me to understand them but as time goes on my English got better. I got along with everybody and I was their little Frenchie!!
"It was difficult for me to go back to France after this great experience."
My job consisted in preparing food for the campers, i.e. laying the table, putting dishes in the oven, and doing the washing up. Moreover, I dealt with cloakrooms and restrooms: vacuuming, washing and mopping the floor. It wasn't too tiring. My week ends were off. My camp was a day camp so children would go home for the night. We had our evenings for us. The camp was huge, with swimming pools, sports grounds, we lived in small cabins by 2.
I spent several weekends in NYC and Washington DC, it was fantastic, I visited lots of places, did shopping and met very interesting people.
It was difficult for me to go back to France after this great experience. I keeping touch by net with international people met through the camp. And I think I'll do again this experience next summer. I do encourage everybody to try this experience. It was the best summer of my life.
